Save the open tabs for one task into a named collection, verify that the links were saved, and reopen that collection when you return. Keep pinned tabs separate and avoid restoring unrelated sessions into the same working window.
Choose what belongs to the session
A browser window often mixes the current feature with unrelated reading. Saving the entire window without reviewing it preserves that confusion. Begin with the links that explain the task: its issue, the relevant documentation, the repository page and any comparison you still need.
Whiskr’s open-tab tray groups tabs by window. Save session lets you choose a destination and review the selected tabs. You can also drag a single open tab into a collection when only one reference needs to be kept.
Save first, then close
Treat closing tabs as the last step of the workflow. In Whiskr, optional closing happens after a successful local save. Pinned tabs remain open. Keep automatic closing off if you prefer to inspect the collection before tidying the browser.
- Choose the window and tabs that belong to the task.
- Save them to a collection with a descriptive name.
- Check that the expected titles and URLs appear.
- Close the saved working tabs when you are ready to move on.
Restore the context you actually need
Open a collection when you are returning to its task. A new window can give the restored session a clearer boundary than adding it to an already crowded one. Whiskr offers collection opening actions and asks for confirmation before large restores.
If you use session swap, Whiskr first saves the previous unpinned tabs as a backup session. Pinned tabs stay in place. This gives the old context a recoverable home before the replacement opens. Browser pages still load normally: restoring saved URLs does not recreate an unsent form or a page’s in-memory application state.
Leave a useful handoff for tomorrow
A session name such as “Payment API — retry behavior” carries more context than a date by itself. Add a short note naming the next question. Move finished research out of the active collection, or keep it under a completed project.
Export important sessions with the rest of your library. A saved collection is a set of links in this browser profile, so it should not be your only copy of critical reference material. The goal is a calmer restart: the task is named, the right URLs are together and the next action is clear.
Put it into practice
A session preserves the links around a task. It is not a backup of a website’s live state, so keep notes for anything a URL cannot restore.
